Gödöllő is a small town located to the east of Budapest. The town is famous for Gödöllő Palace, one of the finest examples of Hungarian baroque architecture built between 1735 and 1749.
In 1867 the Hungarian nation presented the palace as a coronation present to Emperor Franz Joseph and Queen Elizabeth. The royal couple liked to spend their springs and falls in Gödöllő.
Gödöllő Palace also served as the summer residency for Miklós Horthy, Regent of Hungary, from 1920 until the WWII.
The Palace was partially restored in 1996, and now 26 rooms, including Royal Apartments are open to visitors.
The permanent exhibitions of Gödöllő Palace Museum include Royal Interior, Queen Elisabeth Exhibition, Baroque Palace Theatre.
See the program and temporary exhibitions on the website of Gödöllő Royal Palace Museum. Entrance ticket to the museum is 1400 HUF for adults. From April to October the Palace is open daily except Monday from 10 am tp 6 pm.
You can travel to the town of Gödöllő by commuter train (HÉV) from Örs Vezér Tere metro and bus station to Gödöllő Szabadság tér station (see HÉV schedule). The return ticket will cost you 994 HUF, and the trip will take about 45 minutes. The train goes through the village of Mogyoród where Hungaroring Circuit used for Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix is located.
