First introduced at the MoMA this exhibition titled Arctic Hysteria – New Art from Finland has in its focus the contemporary art of Finland – controversial, complex and peculiar, as it is usually the case with the contemporary art.
The exposition comprised of videos, photos and installations conveys the Finnish character and tries to break the stereotypes about Finns perceived by most people as the reserved and reticent nation.
Arctic Hysteria is close to nature as one can see from Ilkka Halso’s fantastic photo landscapes of nature reserves, and Anni Rapinoja’s installation of dresses and shoes, made from natural materials.
But nature is not the only subject of this exhibition, it is also about psychedelia of life shown through somewhat hysterical video-and-sound installations.
Arctic Hysteria – New Art from Finland will continue in Ludwig Museum till April 12, 2009 with guided tour on certain dates in English and Hungarian.
