Garbage Day

Each year each Budapest district has Lomtalanítás - a day when you can get rid of your garbage, from old papers to sofa, for free. It is a day much loved both by those getting rid of their rubbish, and by those who can put their hands on it. And it is always a treasure hunt for crafty people not afraid of getting their hands dirty (literally). Let's take a look at Garbage Day 2012 in XI district on Buda side.

See the schedule by districts (in Hungarian).

Lomtalanítas
People are coming from all over the country to pick anything of value from those piles.
Some specialize in metal recycling, some in antics, others choose anything that works and looks all right and start selling it on the spot.
Pile of rubbish one minute...
Showroom the next, with gipsy ladies swarming around and presenting "their" goods.

It is also about people and history. Next to this envelope was a typewritten thesis on fossils.
And there are fossils everywhere, newspaper from 1970
and Cuba from 60s
and non-existent airlines.
