Szentendre, a small town located just 20 km from Budapest is probably the most popular one day trip destination for tourists.

Established by Serbian and Greek refugees during the 14th century, Szentendre has been the home of many generations of Hungarian artists since early 20th century, and today it is known for its museums, galleries and artists.

You can travel to Szentendre by HÉV suburban train from Batthyány tér on Buda side, the journey will take you about 30 minutes. HÉV tickers are available from ticket windows in the station.

Another way to get to Szentendre is by bike. Just go along the Danube on Buda side following the signs, and in about an hour and a half you will reach Szentendre. The bike trip also allows you to see distant districts and outskirts of Budapest, and make a stop at Római part, popular summer getaway with may cafes that serve traditional Hungarian food.
