Győr (pronounced Dior), the sixth largest in Hungary with population of about 128 000, lies halfway between Budapest and Vienna. The trip by train takes about an hour and a half.
This city known for its Baroque architecture, churches, palaces and corner balconies is also a university town and a popular tourist destination.
It is a charming town of rivers and trees, mixture of historical past and Socialist era buildings.
Győr's most interesting sites, including Rába-Quelle Thermal Bath, are in or around the city centre, so you can get around on foot and see the city in one day.
The prices in restaurants and cafes are quite close to Budapest ones, so dinner for two will cost you about 30 Euros.
