The major event of August is undoubtedly Sziget Festival to be held from August 13 to 17 – the music festival that also features dance, theater, fashion and many other types of art created by artists from around the world. Held annually since 1993, Sziget is one of the most popular gatherings of that kind in Eastern Europe, attended in 2006 alone by 385 000 visitors. The festival is the stage for both stars and young musicians. This year Sziget invited Alanis Morisette, Sex Pistols, R.E.M., Roisin Murphy, The Killers, just to name a few.

The other musical event that attracts both locals and tourists is the Wild Nights in the Budapest Zoo – the summer concerts featuring classical and folk music, jazz and rock. The gates open at 19:00, and the concerts start at 20:30. Admission fee is around 2900 forints (9 euros), and the concerts are held in the Palm House and in the outdoor concert hall. Dates: August 6, 12 and 27.

Keith Haring exhibition in Ludwig Museum of Contemporary Art that will run from August 15 to November 16, 2008 is your opportunity to see the works of legendary figure of the New York art scene of the 1980s, whose laboratory was the New York subway, buildings, church walls and public spaces.

Jewish Festival is s one of Hungary’s most important, most visited and most interesting cultural art events. This year this annual festival will be held from August 30 to September 8 and its programs will include concerts, performances, exhibitions, and movies to be presented in the Dohany Synagogue, the largest synagogue in Europe, and around the city.
