Matthias Church

Budapest. Matthias Church

Named after the Renaissance king Matthias Corvinus, who married in this church in the fifteenth century. The church is almost as old as the Royal Palace and has been the venue of several coronation ceremonies. The crypt and the museum with the collection of medieval stone carvings, sacred relics and religious paintings are at the east end of the church. For many years the church has also served as a venue for concerts, oratories and symphonic performances.
