Benches of Budapest

The best way to see and experience Budapest is through walking. It is a well planned and people-friendly city with many spots to give your tired feet a rest and take a breath.

Here is our selection of benches around the city that offer a view, comfortable seating and fun of crowd watching.

Parliament, Budapest
The view of Parliament from the Buda side. This bench is a great spot to take photos of Parliament and watch tourists and local cyclists.
Chain Bridge, Budapest
Benches by the Chain Bridge on the Pest side, located right on the river. The benches themselves date back to probably 70s, and not too comfortable for long seating, but the view is perfect. Here you have the castle, the bridges, the river and many boats. Not far from this spot is the Shoes on the Danube, a memorial to the killed Budapest Jews.
Zrínyi utca, Budapest
Zrínyi utca is the pedestrian street leading to the Basilica. If you try to avoid pricey tourist cafes, but don't mind tourists, get yourself a coffee to go from a nearby cafe and relax on the bench, watching the crowd and the buildings.
House of Terror, Budapest
From this bench on Andrássy út you can see the grim past of Budapest, former headquarters of secret police and museum of totalitarian regimes today.
Erzsébet tér, Budapest
What used to be a noisy and dirty bus station is now a square in the heart of the city. To be fair, it's dirty too and can get quite noisy, but this is where life happens, and where teens enjoy it. Around are plenty of cafes to get a cup of coffee.
Liberty Bridge, Budapest
Modern and curvy addition to Budapest bench-scene at the Liberty Bridge. Not the best option for stout figures, but its granite gets nicely warm in the sun. Plus, the view of Gellert Hill.
Gellert Hill, Budapest
Practicality of design. This bench at the foot of Gellert hill can go one way...
Gellert Hill, Budapest
or the other. Be careful not to perch on it.
Gellert Hill, Budapest
Halfway to the top of Gellert hill, bird's-eye view of the bridge and Market Hall. Young artists often sketch and draw here, while tourists take photos.
Lukács Bath, Budapest
Custom made bench with a name, a gift of grateful man recovered by the thermal healing waters of Lukács bath.
Danube Promenade, Budapest
Lights of the Castle from the Danube Promenade on Pest side. Back in the days, these Buchwald chairs were rented for a fee, collected by uniformed women. Today, you can relax in their replicas for free watching the sun go down.
