Europe's largest synagogue, the Dohány Synagogue, seating about 3000 persons, was built in the middle of the 19th century. Jewish Museum displaying objects that have been used by the community throughout its history in Hungary is located in the adjacent building.
Permanent exhibitions include Hungarian Coronation Insignia, history of Hungary from 1000 to the 20th century.
The building was designed as a museum, and built in 1837-1847. Now it is kept in very good condition.
Among exhibits of the museum are crockery, musical instruments, clothing, arms, jewelry, etc. In respective halls there is a good collection of propaganda placards of WWI.
