100-year olds in Budapest
Budapest is a relatively young city, built most actively in the beginning of 20th century, which means that many of its buildings are celebrating their 100th anniversary these years.
To mark those occasions we have Budapest100—festival of one-hundred-year-old buildings, which will be held this time on 6-7 April, 2013. On these dates, 50 residential buildings and institutions will open up to the public.
The Budapest100 Festival program will include tours by architects, and public transport company BKV will run their Nostalgia tram service.
It's fog again! Now for New Year's Eve.
What a great thick fog we have for New Years eve this season! Just a few images from around Raday utca.
Public transport on Christmas day
We love our pre-Christmas in Germany. Because what can get you in holiday spirit better than Tannenbaum-flavoured Glühwine and Heiligenacht-spruced grilled sausages?
Christmas tram to Christmas market
The most popular Budapest tram line — No. 2 — got Christmas makeover with flashy trams. The tram runs along the Danube (so it's not only fun for passers-by with their cameras on, the passengers have the view too), and takes you right to Christmas markets on Vörösmarty tér and this year on Fővám tér too, right across from Central Market Hall. Happy whatever does not offend you, don't eat too much.
Flag fail
While majority of Budapest celebrates the 1956 Revolution memorial day using respective flags, 8th district is preferring Italian stuff. Well, colours are the same, right? So, close enough.
Slow Design Exhibition
Slow Design, the international exhibition of over 80 design works is on display in Budapest from 28th September to 28th October 2012.
The exhibits are design solutions in various categories, including such as Design it Yourself, Eco-design, Simplicity or Urban Bicycle Culture. On display in the beautiful building of former bus station are international and Hungarian examples of Slow Design movement selected from 12 countries.
While there you can also drop by a small design shop with coffee and snacks.
Garbage Day
Each year each Budapest district has Lomtalanítás - a day when you can get rid of your garbage, from old papers to sofa, for free. It is a day much loved both by those getting rid of their rubbish, and by those who can put their hands on it. And it is always a treasure hunt for crafty people not afraid of getting their hands dirty (literally). Let's take a look at Garbage Day 2012 in XI district on Buda side.
Flood 2010
Whether caused by melting snow or excessive raining, flood comes to Budapest almost every year.
Nightmare for city budget and motorists, it is a spectacular event both for locals and tourists who come to the Danube embankment to gasp at the power of river and to take photos.
